The NDIS provides support to individuals who have a permanent disability that significantly impacts their ability to participate in daily activities or requires ongoing support. Eligibility is primarily based on being under the age of 65 at the time of initial access, Australian citizenship, permanent residency, or holding a Protected Special Category Visa. The disability must cause a substantial reduction in communication, social interaction, learning, mobility, self-care, or self-management abilities. Eligible participants receive supports considered reasonable and necessary to help achieve their goals and enhance their quality of life through the NDIS.
